Consumer IoT Task Force

The Consumer Internet of Things (IoT) Task Force is chaired by Nils Gerhardt from G+D Mobile Security. All GlobalPlatform members are eligible to participate in this group.

The Consumer IoT Task Force identifies, defines, and evaluates the business and technical requirements necessary to meet the needs of existing and emerging secure services required by consumer-orientated products in an increasingly connected world.


The Consumer IoT Task Force works to:

  • Gather industry intelligence to understand business requirements from the following sectors/products:
    • Smartphone and tablets
    • Wearables
    • Gaming
    • Smart automobile external information exchange (infotainment)
    • Smart home products
  • Promote the use of GlobalPlatform technology and specifications within relevant markets.
  • Collaborate with industry partners including the Car Connectivity Consortium, EMVCo, ETSI, GSMA, Mobey Forum, Open Mobile Alliance, SIMalliance and NFC Forum.

  • Home automation white paper.
  • DSEM/ SEMS white paper
  • Fiat currency white paper.
  • Drive forward GlobalPlatform secure component technologies for IoT.
  • Update Wearable Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) protocol and potentially extend BLE for Payments.

Consumer IoT Task Force Chair

G+D Mobile Security

Mr. Gerhardt is GlobalPlatform’s Chairman and also serves as Chair of the Consumer IoT Task Force. Mr. Gerhardt joined Giesecke & Devrient MS (G+D MS) in 2004, and as Group VP and head of product and project management, production IT and professional services for the region AMERICAS, has global product responsibility for financial institutions. Within this role he oversees product and project management, including product marketing and certification.

Mr. Gerhardt joined the GlobalPlatform Board of Directors in 2015 and also serves as Chair of the Consumer IoT Task Force.

Paul Stovold

Public Transportation Sub-Task Force Chair

ITSO Limited

Mr. Stovold was elected Public Transportation Sub-Task Force Chair in 2015.

Within his role at ITSO, Mr. Stovold is responsible for leading compliance through the implementation of policies and procedures across the ITSO Membership. Prior to this, Mr. Stovold served as Head of IT at financial services company, Cashflows, where he was responsible for systems operations, software development, technical support & program management.
